Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 26, 2026
Tokyo Spotter is a small app made by one person. I keep data collection to the minimum the app needs to work, and I never sell your data. Here is exactly what is collected and why.
1. What We Collect
1.1 Account Information
- If you create an account: your email address, name, and password (encrypted; nobody can see it, including me).
- If you continue as a guest: an anonymous account ID is created, with no personal details attached.
- A profile photo, only if you choose to add one.
1.2 Payments
Purchases are processed by the App Store and RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details.
1.3 Location
The app may use your real-time location to show the nearest spots, travel times, and your position on the map. Location is optional, is used only while the app is running, and is not stored on our servers. You can turn it off anytime in your device settings.
1.4 Usage Data
We collect anonymous usage data (screens visited, actions in the app, device model, OS version) through Google Firebase Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) SDK. The Meta SDK may also collect device identifiers and diagnostics data, processed under Meta’s Data Policy. This data is used only to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To run the app: sign-in, your spots on the map, travel times, weather.
- To process purchases and restore them on a new device.
- To improve the app based on anonymous usage data.
- To answer your messages sent through Contact Us.
- To keep the app secure and prevent fraud.
3. Services the App Relies On
Tokyo Spotter is built on trusted third-party services, and some of your data is processed by them:
- Google Firebase: sign-in, database, photo storage, analytics.
- RevenueCat and the App Store: purchases.
- Apple: weather data (Apple Weather) and travel times (Apple Maps).
- Mapbox: the map itself; it may collect anonymized device and usage data under the Mapbox Privacy Policy.
- Meta (Facebook) SDK: app events and diagnostics.
- Telegram: messages you send through Contact Us are delivered directly to the author.
We do not sell your data to anyone. We share it only with the services above (to make the app work) or when required by law.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase. Passwords are encrypted. Payment data is handled by the App Store and RevenueCat under their security standards. Location data is never stored on our servers.
5. Your Rights and Choices
- You can edit your name, email, password, and photo in the Profile tab.
- You can restore your purchase on a new device with the Restore purchase button.
- You can delete your account anytime with the Delete account option in the Profile tab. All your data is then removed permanently, except what the law requires to keep.
- Guest accounts that stay inactive are deleted automatically after 30 days.
- If you still have an active subscription from an older version of the app, you can manage or cancel it in your App Store subscription settings.
6. Children’s Privacy
The app is not intended for children under 13. If we learn that data of a child under 13 was collected, we will delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we will note it here with a new date above.
